The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections (DOC) is dedicated to enhancing public safety through the safe and secure incarceration of offenders, effective probation and parole supervision, and proven rehabilitative strategies. The Division of Probation & Parole – Adult operates within the Thibodaux District, focusing on reintegrating offenders into society while assisting individuals and communities victimized by crime. Our mission prioritizes staff and offender safety, the provision of basic services, and creating opportunities for change, making amends, and successful reentry.
As a Probation and Parole Officer in the Thibodaux District, you will serve as a critical link between the criminal justice system and the community. Your work involves supervising and investigating criminal offenders assigned to the district, ensuring they adhere to the conditions of their supervision. This role requires a balance of enforcement and support, as you will counsel offenders on social adjustment, connect them with community resources for drug treatment or vocational rehabilitation, and assist them in obtaining emergency financial aid. You will also conduct background investigations, make recommendations to courts and boards, and manage restitution and fine collections. The position demands sound judgment in high-stakes situations, including conducting arrests, transporting violators, and participating in probable cause and revocation hearings.
The DOC fosters a supportive culture that values its employees through recognition programs, clear communication, and a strong sense of community. We prioritize professional growth and internal promotional opportunities. Our benefits package is designed to support long-term stability, offering a defined benefit pension plan, health insurance available post-retirement, and a flexible benefits plan. Employees enjoy at least 10 paid holidays, rolling sick and annual leave, and the potential for alternative work schedules, such as 4/10 shifts, subject to policy requirements.
