The Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) is the public defender agency for Massachusetts and one of the leading public defender agencies in the country. CPCS provides representation in criminal, delinquency, family regulation, guardianship, mental health, and other critical legal matters. Approximately 80% of these cases are handled by private attorneys contracted with the agency. Currently, CPCS faces a critical shortage of private attorneys, making the recruitment of new counsel a top priority.
We fight for equal justice and human dignity by supporting our clients in achieving their legal and life goals. We zealously advocate for the rights of individuals and promote just public policy to protect the rights of all. Our core values are Courage, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.
CPCS is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion as core values. We strive to build strong professional relationships while accepting, listening to, and respecting the diverse circumstances of each client. We maintain a steadfast commitment to ensuring our management and staff represent a broad range of human differences, providing a work climate that is respectful and supports success, and promoting the dignity and well-being of all staff members.
