The Process Chemistry group at AbbVie is dedicated to inventing and executing the chemical processes required to prepare active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Our mission is to enable toxicology studies, clinical trials, and drug product development for AbbVie's pre-clinical and clinical candidates. Through the creation of valuable intellectual property in composition of matter, chemical processes, and technology, we drive the development of safe and cost-effective commercial manufacturing processes.
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Principal Research Scientist II to lead the development of biocatalytic processes for the scalable synthesis of APIs. This role focuses on small molecules, peptides, antibody-drug conjugates, and other modalities. You will apply your expertise in biocatalysis to drive enzyme discovery, directed evolution campaigns, and the application of AI/ML tools for optimizing enzyme-catalyzed reactions.
In this position, you will serve as a technical leader within a matrixed team, setting strategies for solving complex synthetic problems and mentoring scientists. Your day-to-day work involves bridging the gap between unrelated concepts to generate new ideas, authoring technical reports and patents, and presenting findings at scientific forums. You will be expected to integrate modern computational and high-throughput experimentation tools into process development cycles to accelerate discovery and optimization.
