The University's School of Nursing is seeking postdoctoral trainees to join a specialized research training initiative. This program focuses on mastering intervention mapping and community-engaged research methods to develop multi-level, theory-based clinical interventions. The ultimate goal is to create effective strategies for preventing and managing chronic illness-related health disparities.
This is a full-time research training position designed to cultivate expertise in translating theory into practice. Trainees will work closely with mentors to develop an Individual Development Plan (IDP) that outlines specific training goals, strategies for achievement, and progress evaluation. The curriculum includes two required courses: N957 (From theory to intervention and implementation) and N958 (Designing theory-based intervention studies), with additional academic coursework kept to a minimum and directly aligned with the IDP.
Beyond coursework, trainees are expected to regularly attend scientific and integrative seminars, affiliate with a research center at the University, and engage in mentored research experiences with School of Nursing and interdisciplinary faculty. The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) views this training as a full-time obligation; consequently, trainees supported by the T32 grant may work no more than 10 hours per week for pay outside of the program.
The initial appointment is for one year. Re-appointment for a second year is contingent upon demonstrated productivity, including the submission of papers, abstracts, and funding applications, as well as progress toward the training goals established in the IDP.
Trainees receive a monthly stipend set by the funding agency based on years post-PhD, along with tuition assistance. The program also provides support for professional travel and research-related expenses, including health insurance for the trainee.
