The City of Riverside Police Department is dedicated to serving the community with professionalism and integrity. The Records Bureau plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of law enforcement data, ensuring that criminal information, court requirements, and public records are managed with the highest standards of confidentiality and accuracy.
We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as either a Police Records Specialist Trainee or a Police Records Specialist. This position is vital to the department's operations, serving as the hub for complex document management and data integrity.
In this role, you will act as a liaison between case attorneys, police officers, and management, particularly regarding court appearances and subpoenas. You will manage the front counter, providing courteous and expeditious customer service to police personnel, city staff, and the general public. Your work will involve accessing and updating confidential automated law enforcement databases, processing arrest reports, and preparing audio and video recordings for dissemination. Whether you are entering data into the State of California Law Enforcement and Telecommunications System (CLETS) or coordinating the release of towed vehicles, your attention to detail ensures the department functions smoothly.
The Trainee position offers a unique opportunity to learn these complex duties in a supportive training capacity, while the Specialist role is designed for those with prior experience in government or public safety records. Both positions offer a clear path for career advancement within the department, with opportunities to progress to roles such as Police Service Representative, Police Program Coordinator, or Police Program Supervisor.
The selection process begins with a thorough screening of employment application packages. The most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in an assessment process, which may include written, performance, and oral evaluations to verify job-related knowledge and skills.
Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list. Please note that appointment is strictly contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment background investigation, medical and physical examination, and drug and alcohol testing. Depending on the background investigation, a polygraph or psychological examination may also be required. All claims of education and experience will be verified.
Candidates requiring accommodation during the assessment process must contact the Human Resources Department in writing prior to the recruitment closing date. All applicants will be notified via email or telephone regarding their status and assessment details after the closing date.
The City of Riverside Police Department is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, religion, gender, or other protected characteristics.
