About the Role
This position serves as the Department Head for the Harbor Police Department, stepping in for the Assistant Director of Security or Police Major when necessary. The role is responsible for supervising Police Sergeants, officers, investigators, dispatchers, and guards. You will enforce federal, state, and municipal laws, as well as the specific rules and tariffs of the Port of Lake Charles. Under the guidance of the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, you will also enforce federal maritime laws and regulations.
As the Department Head, you will plan, coordinate, and oversee all police operations, directing daily activities and managing work schedules. You will act as the Facility Security Officer (FSO) or alternate, administering security measures for the Port. The role involves overseeing training needs, managing the field training program, assisting with budget planning, and interviewing prospective employees. You will also review incident reports, write employee evaluations, and ensure the Command and Control Center, surveillance systems, and Automatic Identification System (AIS) are functioning properly.
