The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology at the University of Arizona, in partnership with Banner University Medical Center Tucson, seeks to expand its faculty by adding a 5th full-time Pediatric Gastroenterologist. This role is anchored in a nationally recognized academic medical center dedicated to coordinated clinical care, expanded research activities, and nurturing future generations of highly trained medical professionals.
The team currently comprises four pediatric gastroenterologists, one nurse practitioner, and two registered dietitians. Physicians in this division participate in teaching and mentoring pediatric residents, pediatric gastroenterology fellows, and medical students at the College of Medicine-Tucson. The division is supported by the presence of all pediatric subspecialists, including Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Radiology, ensuring a comprehensive care environment.
Banner University Medicine is a health system anchored in Arizona that makes the highest level of care accessible to communities throughout the Tucson and Phoenix regions. The hospital features a 38-bed pediatric floor, a 24-bed PICU, a 20-bed Hem/Onc unit, a 36-bed NICU, and an 18-bed Pediatric ED, with 24/7 pediatric hospitalist coverage.
The successful candidate will hold a faculty appointment at the University of Arizona consistent with their credentials. This position offers a balanced clinical schedule with six half-day clinic sessions (averaging 8 patients per session), two half-day blocks dedicated to procedures, and one day of protected administrative time. Call duties are unrestricted night call, shared on a 1:4 basis with colleagues.
The role involves performing a wide range of procedures including EGD, colonoscopy, foreign body removal, esophageal dilation, submucosal injection, polypectomy, control of GI bleeding, small bowel capsule endoscopy, pH/Impedance probes, Bravo esophageal pH studies, and EndoFLIP. Telemedicine is available, and the division utilizes the Cerner EMR system. Beyond clinical duties, there are significant opportunities for research, quality improvement, community outreach, leadership, and administrative activities.
