The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is seeking a dedicated Physician to provide comprehensive Pain Care to Veterans in Eastern Kansas. This role is vital for improving the quality of life for our nation's heroes by addressing chronic pain through a whole-person approach that focuses on restoring function and holistic well-being.
As the leader of the multidisciplinary Pain Clinic team, you will serve as a subject matter expert at the facility level while acting as a key liaison between the local facility and the regional network. You will coordinate care across various settings, including outpatient clinics, inpatient units, and the Emergency Department as needed. A presence at both the Topeka and Leavenworth locations may be required to ensure seamless service delivery.
Your day-to-day work involves collaborating with and leading a diverse team of specialists, including Interventional Anesthesia Pain Management Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Psychologists, Addiction Psychiatrists, Pharmacists, Physical Therapists, and Registered Nurses. You will oversee medication management, including the prescribing of opioid analgesics when indicated, and provide mentorship and oversight for residents and students participating in our education programs.
This position offers a unique opportunity to shape pain management programs within the VA system. You will have the autonomy to lead a multidisciplinary team without the constraints of a traditional physician employment contract, allowing for significant flexibility in moonlighting. The role is designed to foster a collaborative environment where you can implement the Biopsychosocial Model for Pain Management and drive clinical program development.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic requirements outlined in the job announcement, including U.S. citizenship (with limited exceptions), a medical degree from an approved school, and a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Physicians currently enrolled in accredited residency programs may be eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under specific conditions.
Applicants pending the completion of training or licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all prerequisites are met. For detailed information regarding qualification standards, please visit the VA Office of Human Resources Management website.
The Department of Veterans Affairs is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to providing a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We consider qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
