UNM Hospital is New Mexico's only Level 1 trauma center and the state's premier teaching hospital. The Women's Health Physical Therapy team operates within an outpatient clinic, working in close collaboration with Uro-gynecology providers. Our mission extends beyond women's health and pelvic floor issues to also serve men experiencing pelvic floor pain and dysfunction. The team is deeply embedded in the academic mission of the university, frequently presenting continuing education programs, participating in Uro-gynecology fellows' interviews and research, and teaching within the UNM Physical Therapy program.
This position focuses on organizing and delivering medically-prescribed physical therapy to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of a body part. While the primary focus is on pelvic floor health, the role involves treating patients across the lifespan, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The day-to-day involves evaluating functional ability, planning therapy programs utilizing various physical modalities, and consulting with medical staff to ensure comprehensive patient care.
The role is designed for those passionate about professional growth and education. Therapists in this department are expected to enhance their professional development through participation in educational programs, current literature, and workshops. A key component of the position involves training medical, nursing, and ancillary personnel, as well as supervising and instructing physical therapy students and volunteers.
While experience is preferred, we welcome new graduates. Selected candidates will be supported by a strong mentorship program to ensure a successful transition into the role. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety and a commitment to establishing effective working relationships with patients, visitors, and physicians.
Interested candidates should apply through the UNM Hospital career portal. The department offers a supportive environment for professional development, including opportunities to teach and conduct research. For those relocating to the area, relocation assistance is available. A sign-on bonus is also available for qualified candidates.
This is a 0.75 FTE position working the day shift. Compensation includes shift differentials: 17% for weekday nights, 26% for weekend nights, and 15% for weekend days. Compensation is based on factors including experience, education, and organizational considerations.
