We've made a lot of progress since opening our doors in 1942, but one thing has never changed: our commitment to serve, heal, lead, educate, and innovate. We believe that every award earned, every record broken, and every patient helped is because of the dedicated employees who fill our hallways.
At Ochsner, whether you work with patients every day or support those who do, you are making a difference and that matters. This role is designed to support the laboratory department in delivering exceptional patient care, ensuring that every specimen is processed accurately and every test result contributes to a patient's healing journey.
This position performs various laboratory functions essential to the department's mission. You will conduct phlebotomy procedures, process and accession specimens, distribute samples, and perform specific test procedures. Your work ensures the integrity of the patient care process from the moment a sample is collected to when results are delivered.
Success in this role requires a blend of technical precision and interpersonal grace. You will adapt your behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy and tailoring your communication style to provide clear, professional explanations of procedures. You will also navigate a dynamic environment where you must remain knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements to ensure full compliance.
Working within a healthcare setting involves specific environmental considerations. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue, carrying an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases. Additionally, there may be risks associated with hazardous medications or waste through receipt, transport, storage, and disposal. The role involves medium physical demands, including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, and requires the ability to sit for prolonged periods, travel between facilities, and work a flexible schedule.
