The Phlebotomist Inpatient serves as a critical link in the diagnostic process within an acute care environment. This role is dedicated to obtaining and preparing specimens for analysis while performing various screening tests, specifically supporting high-acuity patient populations across critical care, emergency response, and inpatient units. The position demands the ability to collect timely and accurate specimens under urgent and often complex conditions, adapting rapidly to changing patient needs.
In this capacity, you will collaborate closely with nursing and clinical teams, responding to codes and traumas to ensure specimen integrity. The role also includes performing EKGs and transmitting results to support diagnostic and emergent care needs. Success in this position requires sound judgment, patience, and a professional demeanor, as you navigate a busy, stressful environment while maintaining strict confidentiality and tact.
This role operates within a high-risk clinical setting where adherence to aseptic technique, infection control standards, and isolation precautions is paramount. You will be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, chemicals, and emotionally challenging situations involving distressed patients or difficult family interactions.
The position requires regular and sustained attendance, with the flexibility to work beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts. On-call work may be necessary to respond promptly to organizational or patient needs. The physical demands of the job include frequent lifting (up to 50 pounds), standing, walking, and fine-finger movements, alongside the cognitive ability to learn new tasks and make timely decisions in a fast-paced workflow.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED and American Heart Association (Basic Life Support) certification, or the ability to obtain it within six months of hire. While an Associate Degree in a Science Related Field, ASCP certification, and six months of acute care phlebotomy experience are preferred, the primary focus is on the ability to perform essential job functions successfully.
All employees must complete required education on time as per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements. For specific inquiries regarding this position (Core Lab 77344830), please refer to the official application portal.
