About the Role
The Pharmacist-in-Charge serves as the operational and clinical leader for the pharmacy, ensuring the seamless delivery of pharmaceutical care while maintaining the highest standards of regulatory compliance and patient safety. This role is pivotal in overseeing the entire dispensing process, from processing prescription orders to counseling patients on their medication needs. The position exists to bridge clinical expertise with business operations, driving customer satisfaction, loyalty, and financial performance within the organization.
In this capacity, you will manage a dynamic team of pharmacists, technicians, and interns, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and strict adherence to state and federal laws. The day-to-day rhythm involves supervising the preparation and dispensing of medications, managing controlled substance protocols, and implementing quality assurance programs to enhance patient care. You will act as the primary liaison between the pharmacy and external regulatory bodies, including the Board of Pharmacy, DEA, and FDA, ensuring the facility remains compliant with evolving industry standards.
Beyond clinical oversight, the Pharmacist-in-Charge plays a strategic role in business growth, partnering with management to implement initiatives that expand the pharmacy's reach. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining training manuals, supervising staff development, and ensuring all team members are properly licensed and registered. The role requires a balance of hands-on clinical work and administrative leadership, including responding to regulatory inquiries, managing drug recalls, and ensuring the integrity of patient health information.
Work Environment & Expectations
This position operates within a long-term care (LTC) pharmacy setting, utilizing specialized dispensing software and packaging automation. The role demands a high level of availability, including an on-call rotation every fourth to fifth weekend, as well as flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays to support continuous operations.
