Founded in 1896, Volunteers of America (VOA) is a non-profit organization spanning four states dedicated to creating positive change in the lives of individuals and communities through a ministry of service. Our mission encompasses providing housing for families, veterans, and low-income seniors, as well as offering care for individuals with developmental disabilities, restorative justice programs, and free HIV testing and education. While the term "volunteer" originally referred to anyone serving others as a vocation, today VOA is staffed by paid, mission-driven professionals committed to building thriving communities. We foster a culture defined by flexibility, teamwork, and fun, where employees are proud to contribute to our shared goals.
As a Peer Support Specialist and Community Outreach Coordinator within our Addiction Services program, you will serve as a vital bridge between our clients and the broader community. This role exists to facilitate recovery by connecting individuals with essential resources while providing ongoing, vision-driven hope and encouragement throughout their journey. You will be responsible for outreach to key referral sources, including the judicial system, corrections departments, hospitals, and healthcare providers, to secure treatment beds and engage potential participants.
Your day will involve attending home court dates to discuss program options, assisting with scheduling assessments, and providing individual and group peer support sessions. You will work closely with an interdisciplinary team to update treatment plans and attend community educational sessions to promote our programs. A core part of your mission is to guide clients from professionally directed service plans to self-directed recovery maintenance, helping them identify personal strengths, goals, and interests to sustain long-term success.
Interested candidates should submit their application highlighting their experience in community outreach and peer support. We look for individuals who embody our core values of integrity, compassion, and justice. The selection process involves a review of qualifications, including a valid KY Driver's License and current automobile insurance, with preference given to those with demonstrated recovery experience and KY certification.
At VOA, we are committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, age, national origin, disability status, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Our culture is further reinforced by dedicated committees focused on Justice, Integrity, Compassion, and Retention, ensuring that our work environment remains supportive and aligned with our mission.
