COMCARE is a division of Sedgwick County dedicated to providing comprehensive behavioral health services. As part of the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team works to support adults with severe and persistent mental illness, helping them remain in the least restrictive environment possible.
This position serves as a vital link in the recovery journey, providing goal-directed, medically necessary peer support services. You will be a member of the ACT team, utilizing your lived experience to model successful behaviors and strategies for consumers. The role focuses on helping patients regain the ability to make independent choices and take a proactive role in their own treatment.
In this role, you will facilitate self-contained, goal-directed peer support groups with a strong recovery focus. A key component of the position involves providing transportation in your personal passenger vehicle to support patient attendance at medical appointments and therapeutic activities, including the development of community resources, employment access, and social activities. You will also maintain accurate documentation, including progress notes, records of precautions, and AIMS data, ensuring all entries meet medical necessity and CCBHC guidelines.
Applicants must be able to fulfill the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) requirements to become a Certified Peer Support Specialist. The selection process includes completing orientations provided by Sedgwick County and COMCARE, as well as passing required background checks (KBI, DCF child abuse check, adult abuse registry) and motor vehicle screens.
