As the voice of the hospital, this position serves as the central hub for all incoming communications. You will report directly to the Supervisor of the PBX Call Center, acting as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and staff. Your role is critical in maintaining the flow of information and ensuring safety by managing the switchboard, monitoring alarms and CCTV, and coordinating closely with Hospital Security, Nursing Staff, and Physicians.
Your day will be defined by a fast-paced environment where you must remain organized and detail-oriented amidst frequent distractions. You will answer all incoming calls in a timely, courteous, and professional manner, utilizing the overhead paging system to announce emergencies or page authorized personnel as needed. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to handling emergency situations, including codes, stats, and disasters, requiring you to place long-distance calls and maintain accurate documentation.
Beyond call handling, you will monitor system-wide databases for patient and employee information and assist in resolving telecommunications equipment failures. You will also play a key role in upholding hospital policies and procedures, ensuring the best quality of care for everyone on campus. Additionally, you may be called upon to assist in training newly hired staff to the department.
This role requires flexible availability to accommodate various shifts, including start times at 6 AM, 2 PM, 6 PM, or 10 PM. Weekend availability is also required to ensure 24/7 coverage for the hospital's communication needs.
We are seeking a friendly individual who enjoys working with the public and can thrive under stress. The ideal candidate will be a natural communicator who can stay organized while managing multiple tasks with minimal supervision. While a High School Diploma or equivalent work experience is required, previous customer service experience is essential. Experience with hospital PBX systems or operator roles is preferred, as is the ability to write, speak, and read Spanish.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our organization. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
