The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is a unique combination of education, research, and clinical programs that encourages and supports teamwork and diversity. As a collaborative health care organization, UAMS is focused on improving patient care and the lives of Arkansans.
The Patient Services Associate (PSA) serves as a specifically trained member of the unit-based care team within the Behavioral Health Service Line Women's Inpatient Unit. This role provides essential clerical and patient care support, working under the direct supervision of the Clinical Services Manager and the direction of the RN. The PSA performs tasks that do not require a licensed practitioner, bridging the gap between administrative needs and patient well-being.
In this capacity, you will greet and check in patients, verify insurance and demographic information, and manage intake paperwork. You will act as the receptionist for the nursing unit, answering phones, routing calls to clinicians or crisis staff, and assisting with admissions and discharge processes. A key aspect of the role involves supporting patients experiencing emotional distress using de-escalation techniques while maintaining strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and mental health rules. You will also coordinate communication between patients, therapists, psychiatrists, and case managers, ensuring a seamless experience for those seeking care.
