This position serves as a vital member of the dialysis healthcare team in Breese, IL, dedicated to providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, the role is essential to the organization's commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities. The primary mission is to ensure patients achieve their quality enhancement goals while maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant working environment in accordance with federal, state, and corporate regulations.
Your day will focus on the direct care and monitoring of patients undergoing hemodialysis. You will welcome patients, assess their well-being, and evaluate vascular access for patency before initiating treatment. A significant portion of your time involves operating hemodialysis machines, calculating ultrafiltration goals, and monitoring patients' responses to therapy throughout the session. You will be responsible for obtaining vital signs, managing blood flow and dialysate flow, and performing necessary interventions for any intradialytic problems as directed by physician orders.
In the Transitional Care Unit, you will guide newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis, coordinating care across disciplines and assisting with education on home dialysis options. You will also ensure the highest standards of infection control by cleaning equipment, disinfecting treatment areas, and reinforcing safety protocols with patients and families. Documentation is a key component, requiring accurate and timely recording of treatment parameters, lab specimens, and patient progress in clinical applications.
Candidates must possess a High School diploma or G.E.D. and are required to meet CMS-approved state or national certification requirements within the designated timeline. Successful employment is contingent upon completing the organization's dialysis training program and obtaining CPR certification. As a condition of employment, all candidates must take the Ishihara Color Blindness test; however, failing this test does not automatically preclude employment, as the company will consider reasonable accommodations.
