This position serves as an integral member of the dialysis healthcare team, dedicated to providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, the role ensures compliance with organization policies, procedures, and training while adhering to regulations set by corporate, state, and federal agencies. The primary focus is on the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe and clean working environment, and actively supporting the organization's commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
A typical day involves a comprehensive cycle of patient care, from welcoming patients and assessing their wellbeing to evaluating vascular access and initiating dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders. The role requires constant monitoring of patient responses, managing intradialytic problems, and performing necessary interventions. Beyond direct patient interaction, the position includes critical responsibilities such as calculating ultrafiltration goals, ensuring machine safety alarms are enabled, and maintaining accurate documentation of vital signs and treatment parameters.
The role also extends to transitional care, where the team member guides newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis. This includes coordinating care across disciplines, reinforcing education on treatment options, and assisting patients in understanding home dialysis products and benefits. The position demands a balance of clinical precision, infection control adherence, and environmental maintenance, ensuring all areas are safe, clean, and ready for the next treatment.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. and are required to meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the mandated timeline. Continued employment is contingent upon the successful completion of the organization's dialysis training program and CPR certification. As a condition of employment, all candidates must take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test; however, failing this test does not automatically preclude employment, as the company will consider reasonable accommodations.
