Join the Parks and Recreation team at Pima County, where our mission is to keep our parks clean, safe, and welcoming for the community. As a Parks Technician II, you will be an essential part of a dedicated group performing hands-on maintenance duties across our park system. Your work ensures that ballfields, trails, and natural areas remain in top condition for visitors to enjoy.
In this role, you will work alongside a team to maintain the beauty and functionality of Pima County parks. Your day-to-day activities involve operating ride-on equipment, managing turf, and performing structural pruning on urban forests and vegetation. You will also handle minor repairs to plumbing and irrigation systems, apply finishes to fixtures, and manage the disposal of hazardous materials.
Depending on the specific park setting, your duties may extend to natural resource areas, where you might maintain wildlife drinkers, ponds, equestrian facilities, and trails, or assist with habitat restoration and erosion control. You will also serve as a point of contact for the public, explaining rules and regulations to visitors and vendors.
Pima County Human Resources reserves the right to admit only those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on the education and experience listed in your application. Candidates meeting these minimums may be further evaluated against preferred qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments or testing may be required as part of the selection process.
A valid Arizona driver license is required at the time of application, and the successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review. All positions require the AZ Department of Agriculture-Office of Pesticide Management Certified Applicator license (Category #3-Ornamental and Turf) at the time of appointment or must be obtained prior to completing the initial probation period.
Successful candidates will undergo a post-offer, pre-employment background screening, including verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. This position also requires a post-job offer physical and/or drug screen. Please note that a prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
