CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors, and partners working together to build an inclusive New York City. Our mission is to ensure all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach, offering more than 180 integrated programs in Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services.
We reach almost 80,000 individuals and families, including nearly 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross-section of New Yorkers, from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe, and over 85% of our families are living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.
The Youth Enrichment Services (YES) program engages school-aged youth (ages 12–21) in programming and supportive services designed to change the culture around violence and encourage positive youth development. YES operates in and around schools in neighborhoods with a high prevalence of community violence, actively recruiting and engaging youth who are vulnerable to system involvement or at risk for interpersonal violence.
As an Outreach Worker, you will serve as a visible, approachable presence during school hours to build relationships with students. Your day will involve facilitating structured sessions, workshops, and group discussions focused on conflict resolution, violence prevention, and positive youth development. You will work closely with safety staff to identify at-risk youth, detect and mediate conflicts both inside and outside the school, and respond promptly to crisis situations by deescalating conflicts through intervention and mentorship.
A key part of your role is ensuring student safety by providing safe passage to and from school at least twice weekly (four times weekly for campus schools), maintaining a supportive presence along common routes to public transportation and high-risk areas. You will also actively recruit high-risk youth into the program, establishing trust-based relationships to offer guidance on prosocial behaviors, life skills, and personal challenges. This position requires collaboration with school personnel and local law enforcement to address incidents and identify recurring conflict "hot spots."
Interested candidates should submit their application through our standard portal. The selection process typically involves a review of qualifications followed by an interview with the Assistant Program Director to discuss experience and fit within our team.
