About the Role
This position serves as a critical component of Section 51 - Bridge Maintenance & Facilities, ensuring the continuous operation of the DOTD Headquarters and satellite offices. The role is designed to maintain the safety, security, and efficiency of the agency's central plant infrastructure 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
As a Shift Operator, you will function as a sole operator on rotating 12-hour shifts, managing complex mechanical systems including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), boilers, cooling towers, and power generators. Your day-to-day responsibilities involve monitoring computer-operated energy management systems, reading gauges for water temperature and voltage, and maintaining detailed logs of heavy industrial equipment. You will also play a key role in building security during unoccupied hours, managing access control systems and CCTV monitoring.
The work environment is dynamic, often performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. The role requires physical agility, including bending, stooping, lifting, and climbing, as well as the ability to work at differing heights. You will collaborate with contractors and water treatment consultants to perform preventative maintenance and ensure proper chemical levels to prevent corrosion and bacterial growth in water systems.
