About the Program

The Mayor's Summer Youth Jobs Program offers young residents aged 16–20 the opportunity to gain valuable work experience within the City of Charleston. This initiative aims to implement community, recreational, and cultural programs at designated city facilities, fostering professional growth and civic engagement during the summer months.

About the Role

As an Office Assistant at the Charleston Fire Department Training Center, you will serve as a vital support link for the department's administrative operations. Working under close supervision, you will handle a variety of tasks including preparing correspondence, managing mail distribution, maintaining files, and performing data entry to generate reports. You will also be the first point of contact for visitors, answering phones and assisting the general public with courtesy and professionalism.

This role is designed for individuals eager to develop their administrative skills while working closely with a Senior Administrative Assistant. You will utilize Microsoft Office products and apply strong communication skills to interact with internal departments and external stakeholders.

Hiring Process & Application

Interested candidates must be between the ages of 16 and 20. Applicants are required to provide documentation verifying their legal work status. The position runs from June 8, 2026, through July 31, 2026, with potential extensions based on availability and departmental needs. Employment is at-will, meaning it may be terminated by either the employee or the City at any time.
