The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwell Health and The Zucker School of Medicine is expanding Women's Health services across the Health System. As part of this growth, we are seeking a Vice Chair to join our Staten Island team.
Staten Island University Hospital, founded in 1861, is a 714-bed specialized teaching hospital located in New York City's fastest-growing borough. Occupying two large campuses, plus a number of community-based health centers and labs, the hospital provides quality care to people on Staten Island, the New York metropolitan region, and to patients from around the world.
Northwell Health is New York State's largest healthcare provider and private employer, with 28 hospitals and 1,050 outpatient facilities. We care for over thirteen million people annually in the New York metro area and Connecticut. Our 104,000 employees, including 22,000+ nurses and 13,000+ credentialed physicians, are working to change healthcare for the better. We are making breakthroughs in medicine at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research and training the next generation of medical professionals at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
This Vice Chair position offers a unique opportunity to lead within a dynamic academic medical center. The role combines clinical excellence with educational leadership, requiring a physician who can provide direct, comprehensive patient care across Labor and Delivery, Mother-Baby, the Emergency Department, inpatient consults, and the operating room. The successful candidate will manage both high-risk and routine obstetrics and gynecology cases while serving as a member and leader of the OB Rapid Response Team.
Beyond clinical duties, the Vice Chair will function as the Safety Officer, ensuring that departmental evidence-based protocols are followed and quality metrics are met. A significant portion of the role involves collaborating with residents, ACPs, midwives, nurses, and other healthcare practitioners. The position also includes active participation in the development and delivery of the obstetrics and gynecology curriculum for graduate medical education, as well as supervising and mentoring residents and medical students during clinical rotations.
Staten Island offers a unique blend of small-town charm and big-city access. It is affordable compared to other NYC boroughs and features diverse neighborhoods, excellent schools, abundant parkland, vibrant cultural attractions, and a thriving culinary scene. The borough is home to diverse neighborhoods, parks, natural areas, and cultural attractions. It is located right over the bridge from either Brooklyn or New Jersey, or you can reach Manhattan via ferry or in less than 30 minutes by car.
