The Clinical Dietitian I serves as a foundational member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, dedicated to delivering patient care that aligns with integrated, patient-focused medical goals. This position is specifically designed for dietitians who are new to the field or have recently completed their internships and pre-professional experiences, often prior to taking the Registered Dietitian (RD) Exam.
In this role, you will apply the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) to assess, diagnose, intervene, and monitor patient progress. You will utilize the Scope of Dietetics Practice Framework (SODPF) alongside established Standards of Practice and evidence-based protocols to guide your clinical decisions. While you will manage a broad range of patient needs, you will also identify when complex cases require referral to higher-level staff for specialized guidance.
Your day involves assessing nutrition and fluid status across diverse age-specific populations, considering cultural, religious, and ethnic factors. You will develop and revise care plans, document findings accurately in medical records, and provide personalized nutrition counseling that addresses medical, economic, and social situations. Beyond direct patient care, you will serve as a resource to medical staff, collaborate with foodservice teams to ensure adherence to nutrition prescriptions, and participate in interdisciplinary rounds and conferences.
You will also play a key role in education, assisting in the training of dietetics students and interns, conducting in-services for hospital staff, and developing patient education materials. Additionally, you will supervise dietetic technicians in screening and data collection, ensuring all activities comply with HIPAA regulations and organizational standards.
We maintain the highest standards of care by adhering to Joint Commission Requirements, National Patient Safety Goals, and federal regulations such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Conditions of Participation. Employees are expected to demonstrate accountability for patient safety, ethical treatment, and continuous quality improvement. This includes participating in performance improvement initiatives, maintaining accurate record-keeping for billing and scheduling, and engaging in ongoing professional development to maintain dietetic registration.
We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment. All employees must abide by policies regarding sensitivity to cultural diversity, respect for others, and the protection of patient rights. We strive to sustain compliance with all accrediting agency standards to continuously improve the safety and quality of care for our patients and community.
