This opportunity resides with Warfare Systems (WS), a business group within HII's Mission Technologies division. Our team of more than 7,000 professionals worldwide delivers all-domain expertise and advanced technologies in service of mission partners across the globe. We work within the nation's intelligence and cyber operations communities to defend interests in cyberspace and anticipate emerging threats. Our capabilities in cybersecurity, network architecture, reverse engineering, and software and hardware development uniquely enable us to support sensitive missions for the U.S. military and federal agency partners.
Mission Technologies is leading the next evolution of national defense—the data evolution—by accelerating a breadth of national security solutions for government and commercial customers. From C5ISR and AI to the largest family of unmanned underwater vehicles in every class, we deliver mission-driven solutions that matter.
This is an unpaid internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program designed for transitioning active-duty U.S. military personnel during their final 180 days of service. The SkillBridge Intern will train as a Network Engineer with HII Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated Network Engineering Supervisor. The goal is to gain hands-on experience in designing, planning, implementing, testing, and sustaining enterprise networks within Warfare Systems environments.
You will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and senior company leadership. The program focuses on placing transitioning military personnel into internships that leverage their existing Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) and military training. Interns will work alongside subject matter experts to apply best practices in network architecture, hardware/software selection, integration testing, and modernization strategies. By the end of the program, you will have the confidence to perform mid-level network engineering functions across LAN, MAN, WAN, and cloud-integrated networks.
This internship also provides a unique window into HII's mission, culture, and career pathways, offering a potential transition to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII.
Over a 4-month target period, you will progress through a structured Program of Instruction designed to build applied skills and strategic understanding. The journey begins with orientation to HII, TS/SCI protocols, and core network concepts. You will then move into technical learning, building skills in design, implementation, and testing, including configuring routers, switches, and firewalls, and introducing automation with Python and Ansible.
As you advance, you will transition to integrated operations, implementing firewall rules, planning cloud connectivity with AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform, and researching emerging technologies like SD-WAN and NFV. The program culminates in a Capstone project where you will draft a comprehensive network proposal, present deliverables, and host a Q&A session. In the final phase, you will engage in simulated mission exercises, partner with engineering teams for red-team/blue-team exercises, and shadow senior engineers to mentor future interns.
Throughout the program, you will complete a capstone network architecture project demonstrating end-to-end mastery, build professional relationships within the Warfare Systems team, and prepare for a career roadmap in national security.
To apply, candidates must be active-duty military personnel within the final 180 days of active-duty service. Applications are accepted within the final 12 months of U.S. military active-duty service. Selected candidates must possess an active TS/SCI security clearance and be available during core hours for critical meetings and training.
If selected, HII Mission Technologies will fund all travel costs associated with the internship.
