The Department of Music, Theatre & Dance within the College of Arts, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences is part of Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania. This institution represents the union of Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield universities, working together to transform higher education in the region. The department is dedicated to the intellectual and personal growth of students both inside and outside the classroom, offering a vibrant on-campus experience that serves as a pillar for the local communities.
Commonwealth University invites applications for temporary faculty positions within the Music, Theatre & Dance department. These roles are designed to meet fluctuating departmental needs as they arise, with appointments ranging from part-time one semester to full-time one semester or part-time academic year. The specific position and campus location (Bloomsburg, Mansfield, or Lock Haven) will depend on the immediate requirements of the department.
Successful candidates will be qualified to teach in one of several capacities, including Applied Music Instructor (private lessons and studio classes), Music Student Teacher Supervisor, Ensemble Director (covering marching band, orchestra, wind ensemble, or symphonic band), or Music Technology Instructor. The role involves teaching, evaluating, and advising students, with a strong emphasis on pedagogy, performance, and the specific repertoire relevant to the position.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis as they are received. The selection process is rigorous and collaborative; a recommendation for hiring requires a majority vote from the regular, full-time department faculty. Finalists must demonstrate strong communication skills and successfully complete an interview process judged by the department faculty.
Offers of employment are conditional and contingent upon student enrollment and available funding. Prior to a final offer, selected candidates must successfully complete a background check, including employment verification, educational credential verification, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, and criminal background checks as mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A.
Commonwealth University is committed to cultivating a campus climate that values the diverse contributions of all members of the community. The university actively supports and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) through workshops, trainings, and programs designed to broaden understanding within the campus community. The institution strives to ensure that all learning and living environments are welcoming and capable of serving all individuals. Commonwealth University prohibits discrimination or harassment on the basis of sex, race, color, age, religion, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, marital or family status, medical condition, genetic information, veteran status, or disability.
