The Welder I plays a critical role in the fabrication of iso-bend pipe, fittings, and special products. This position is responsible for executing precise assembly, tack welding, and MIG welding operations strictly in accordance with engineering and customer-supplied specifications. The role requires a blend of technical precision, blueprint interpretation, and adherence to rigorous quality standards to ensure the integrity of manufactured components.
In this role, you will manage the full workflow from material preparation to final inspection. Your day begins with visually inspecting all components for compliance, burrs, defects, and cleanliness. You will calculate cut lengths for iso-bend pipe, mark cut-off points, and operate pipe cutting tools and sever machines to achieve exact dimensions without damaging the liner.
Once prepared, you will assemble and tack weld fittings and special products using appropriate tooling. The core of the position involves welding pipe housing and fittings to meet manufacturing and customer specifications, utilizing both MIG and TIG processes as required. You will set up welders with the correct filler wire and compressed gas pressures, ensuring all work is performed within the parameters of your specific welder qualification procedures.
Quality control is integral to your daily tasks. You will verify protective shields and restricted area signs, use measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers, and complete inspection sheets with allowances for liner thickness. Additionally, the role involves material handling functions using hand trucks and carts, including lifting parts up to 50 lbs or coordinating team lifts for heavier items.
Candidates must successfully pass the Crane welding qualifications test, which includes a plate test (fillit welds) on an 8-inch coupon, schedule 40 pipe, open root, and three passes (root downhill, hot pass uphill, cover pass uphill), meeting all X-ray requirements.
Crane Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
