The School Counselor serves as a vital member of the Family & Student Support Services division, dedicated to fostering a comprehensive, developmental, and results-based counseling program. This role exists to ensure every student receives equitable access to educational, career, and social-emotional support. By integrating direct and indirect services, the counselor acts as a bridge between students, families, and the broader community, advocating for equity and utilizing professional resources to meet diverse student needs.
In this position, you will facilitate a wide array of counseling services, ranging from individual and small-group counseling to structured curriculum sessions. Your day involves conducting group advisement on topics such as college readiness, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities, while also interpreting standardized testing data to guide student placement. You will collaborate closely with teachers, administrators, and parents to address student concerns, coordinate classroom activities, and manage the transition of students through the school system. Whether holding conferences, conducting exit interviews for withdrawing students, or supervising student activities, you will maintain a professional environment grounded in confidentiality and ethical practice.
As a School Counselor, you are expected to model integrity and adhere strictly to the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators. The role requires maintaining accurate records, complying with local and state policies, and ensuring the safety and well-being of students at all times. You will work cooperatively with school staff to support student conduct and discipline while promoting the effective use of community resources.
Candidates must hold or be eligible for a Georgia Educator Certificate in School Counseling.
