This position serves as a Teacher / Coach at the district's middle school campuses, including Shepard, Zamora, and Dwight. The role is designed to implement and maintain a robust athletic program that fosters healthy competition, cultivates good sportsmanship, and builds community pride. As an integral part of the educational program, the incumbent contributes to the holistic growth of students involved in athletics, ensuring that their participation supports their overall development.
The position involves coaching specific sports across various grade levels, such as Football, Cross Country, Boys Basketball, Boys Soccer, Volleyball, and Boys Track. The coach works directly with student athletes to improve their abilities through varied instructional techniques while managing athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions. A key aspect of the role is mentoring students on NCAA regulations regarding academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices, alongside enforcing student discipline and encouraging sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and possess a valid secondary or all-level Texas Teachers Certificate. A satisfactory outcome of a fingerprinting background check is required, with a non-refundable fee of approximately $50.00 paid by the employee. Applicants should demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of coaching experience at the 4A or 5A High School level, along with general knowledge of coaching techniques and University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules and regulations.
The interview process will evaluate the candidate's ability to instruct, supervise, and implement leadership qualities, as well as their organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Successful candidates will be expected to attract athletes to the basketball program in grades K-12 and demonstrate the ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
