About the Role
The Meter Technician is a hands-on position responsible for ensuring accurate utility service throughout the community. You will be the face of the City in the field, installing, maintaining, and repairing water meters, meter boxes, and interface units. Your work directly supports the City's commitment to service reliability by connecting, reconnecting, and disconnecting water service as needed.
In this role, you will utilize handheld computers to obtain billing readings, verify accuracy, and troubleshoot meter problems detected by drive-by units. You will also assist in performing tests on meters to verify proper operation and handle delinquent accounts by locking or assisting with meter removal when necessary. This position requires you to identify and report suspected theft of service to supervisors promptly. As a key member of the team, you will maintain City property, including trucks and tools, and may be required to perform essential duties during emergency situations or evacuations to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
