About the Team

Join the Office of Mental Health at the South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD). We are dedicated to providing compassionate and accessible care to our community, striving to build a healthier, more resilient population. Our mission is to help individuals and families navigate life's challenges and achieve long-term wellness through evidence-based, person-centered approaches.

About the Role

This position serves as a Mental Health Professional - Licensed Addiction Counselor on an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team. The ACT model provides a single fixed point of responsibility for treatment, rehabilitation, and support for patients with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) who require higher levels of community care. You will deliver intensive, non-residential services in accordance with the Fidelity Model, ensuring that treatment approaches align with each beneficiary's stage of change readiness.

In this role, you will work outside of a traditional clinic setting, delivering services directly in the community and patient homes. You will partner with patients to facilitate access to 12-step groups and other community resources, utilizing cognitive behavioral approaches, relapse prevention strategies, and motivational interviewing techniques. The role requires flexibility, as you will be part of an essential team that may be called back during crises or emergencies to support the community's mental health needs.

Hiring Process

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities requires a complete state application to determine qualification for this position; resumes alone will not be reviewed. Applicants must complete all supplemental questions, which are considered part of the official application. Please ensure your application includes all current and previous work history and education. Any misrepresentation may result in disqualification.

Equal Opportunity

The Department is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), national origin, age (40 or older), disability, or genetic information.
