About the Team

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, located in Merriam, Kansas, is a 504-bed acute care hospital serving the Kansas City metro area, particularly Johnson County. Formerly Shawnee Mission Medical Center, it joined the AdventHealth network in 2002, guided by a mission to provide faith-based, whole-person care that nurtures physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Established in 1962, the hospital has deep roots in the community, originating from a collaboration between local leaders, the Johnson County Medical Society, and the New Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Our physician team consists of over 700 doctors across 50 specialties. We are currently expanding our subspecialty oncology programs in breast, thoracic, GI, GU, Gyn, and neuro oncology. The hospital's state-of-the-art AdventHealth Cancer Institute, accredited by the Commission on Cancer, provides advanced treatments like MRI-guided radiation therapy. A new $76.5 million facility opened in 2024 has doubled our patient capacity, allowing us to deliver cutting-edge, patient-centered care.

About the Role

We are searching for a dynamic, energetic, and team-oriented fellowship-trained Medical Oncologist to join our group. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in growing our subspecialty programs and delivering high-quality care within a multidisciplinary environment. You will work alongside nurse navigators, dietitians, social workers, oncology rehab specialists, palliative medicine experts, and patient financial navigators.

This position offers a unique opportunity to practice in a team-centered atmosphere with a strong referral base. New physicians will have immediate access to research opportunities, clinical trials, and tumor boards. The role involves managing approximately 20 patients daily, Monday through Friday, with a 1-in-6 call rotation that includes 24-hour inpatient coverage and outpatient clinic support at night.
