This position serves as a vital component of our diagnostic team at St Marys Medical Center (Building B). As a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), you will perform and report tests of all complexity levels on patients of all ages, directly assisting with the routine screening, diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and injuries.
The role requires a high degree of problem-solving capability. While the MLT focuses on executing tests and participating in quality assurance, control monitoring, instrumentation maintenance, and troubleshooting, the MLS role involves interpreting and correlating test results with disease states and theoretical knowledge. MLS professionals may also engage in research, development, education, and technical consultation. Both roles may require phlebotomy and specimen processing duties, ensuring seamless specimen processing and customer service.
This is a 0.8 FTE position located at St Marys Medical Center. The role operates on a night rotation schedule, working from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM, with a requirement for weekend coverage. The position is represented by the USWA Technical Workers SMMC (UTECH) union.
Candidates must hold the appropriate degree and certification to apply. For the MLT role, applicants must be graduates of an associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technician or meet CLIA guidelines for alternative routes. For the MLS role, applicants must be graduates of a four-year degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, or an MLT (ASCP) certified professional with additional semester hours and two years of full-time lab experience.
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) is required within one year from the date of hire.
