Under the general supervision of the Administrator of Utilities and Telecommunications, this position is dedicated to developing and implementing programs that enhance utilities conservation across District facilities. The role serves as a critical technical resource, bridging the gap between operational maintenance and strategic energy management.
The incumbent acts as the primary operator of the Energy Management and Control System (EMCS), ensuring optimal performance through software modifications and database diagnostics. Beyond daily troubleshooting of HVAC systems, boilers, and heat pumps, the role involves advising custodian engineers on efficient operations and coordinating with electrical contractors during installations. This position is essential for maintaining indoor air quality, evaluating system performance, and providing management with accurate energy use and cost data.
Candidates must possess a High School diploma or equivalent, with an Associate's degree preferred. Essential qualifications include completion of an IUOE Apprenticeship Program or equivalent vocational-technical training, alongside three years of Journey Stationary Engineer experience or ten years of Journey-level experience operating building mechanical and electrical systems.
Required certifications include Steam Engineer Grade Three and Refrigeration Operating Engineer. All selected candidates must successfully pass a criminal justice fingerprint and background check.
