The Office of Laboratory Animal Research (OLAR) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus supports a highly technical research environment dedicated to biomedical research and education across the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Nursing. The field of Laboratory Animal Management requires specialized knowledge of complex operations, strict adherence to laws and regulations (including Animal Welfare Regulations, PHS Policy, and IACUC policies), and the maintenance of specialized equipment for various species of large and small laboratory animals.
This full-time Operations Technician I position provides routine and specialized support for the vivarium facilities on the Anschutz Medical Campus. Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, you will be the backbone of daily operations in the cage wash, docks, and auxiliary areas. Your day will involve decontaminating a wide array of equipment, from Animal Transfer Stations to veterinary machinery, and managing the flow of caging, supplies, and waste.
You will work collaboratively with co-workers on large facility projects, ensuring that all work areas are sanitized according to Standard Operating Procedures. The role demands a hands-on approach to maintaining a safe environment while handling hazardous chemicals, animal waste, and biological materials. As an essential personnel member, you may be required to respond to emergencies, work rotating shifts, and remain on call 24/7 to support the continuous needs of the research facility.
