About the Role
As a Porter at RWB Thrift, you serve as the "air-traffic controller" of the backroom, anticipating the needs of production support staff before they arise. Your role is vital in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment by managing the flow of the production floor and removing hazards from walkways. Your attention to detail and ability to execute tasks in a fast-paced setting contribute to a positive experience for production employees and help streamline overall operations.
On any given shift, you may rotate through several key functions:
- Trailer Loader / Unloader: Safely and efficiently load and unload items from delivery trucks, including furniture, clothing, electronics, and other donated goods. You will sort, organize, and document arrivals while moving merchandise to designated areas.
- Trash Compactor Operator: Manage waste efficiently by operating and maintaining compactor equipment, ensuring proper disposal of discarded items, and optimizing space.
- Organizer: Oversee supply management within the backroom, receiving, organizing, and replenishing supplies such as hangers, sensors, racks, carts, and bins to ensure timely availability on the production floor.
The work environment is dynamic, characterized by a consistently busy atmosphere, high noise levels from sales floor activity, and bright lighting throughout the store. Success in this role requires flexibility to switch tasks or departments based on operational needs and the ability to interact effectively with customers, donors, and coworkers.
