Founded in 1819, the University of Cincinnati is a Carnegie 1 research university and the anchor of the Cincinnati Innovation District. With over 53,600 students and a historic commitment to cooperative education, UC combines research prowess with a dynamic physical setting. As a mission-driven organization, the university thrives on innovation and fosters an environment where staff and faculty are key contributors to student success and community transformation.
The Managing Editor of The Cincinnati Review serves as a vital leader for a top-tier international literary journal based in the English Department. This mentorship-heavy position involves overseeing the production of two print and digital issues annually, working closely with the Senior Editor and Web and Media Editor. The role is designed for an individual who excels in organizational leadership and is comfortable liaising with institutional departments, faculty across disciplines, and the broader publishing community.
In this capacity, you will recruit, hire, and supervise a team of graduate-level editors, undergraduate co-op students, and interns. The day-to-day rhythm includes managing the full production schedule, from reading submissions and copyediting accepted prose and poetry to coordinating with typesetters and mailing services. You will also play a key role in the journal's external presence, managing the team's participation in the AWP national conference and assisting with local and virtual events. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of literary publishing while fostering the growth of the next generation of editors.
To apply, candidates must create a profile and submit a complete job application through the UC applicant portal. Please note that "easy apply" applications submitted via other websites cannot be considered. Current UC employees must apply internally via SuccessFactors.
