We are seeking a Managing Editor for The Cincinnati Review, a top-tier international literary journal based in the English Department. This mentorship-heavy position is pivotal to the journal's mission, working alongside the Senior Editor and Web and Media Editor to oversee the production of two print and digital issues annually.
The Managing Editor serves as the operational and editorial leader for a team of graduate student editors, undergraduate co-op students, and interns. The role blends high-level production management with hands-on editorial work, requiring the coordination of vendors, the management of contributor payments, and the maintenance of the journal's house style. Beyond production, the editor acts as a liaison between the journal and various institutional departments, faculty across disciplines, and the broader publishing community. The position also involves active participation in the journal's presence at national conferences and the planning of local and virtual events to engage the literary community.
Candidates must create a profile and submit a complete job application through the UC applicant portal. We are unable to consider "easy apply" applications submitted via other websites. Current UC employees must apply internally via SuccessFactors.
The selection process includes a copyediting test to demonstrate mastery of the Chicago Manual of Style for both prose and poetry. For questions regarding the recruiting process or to request accommodations, please contact UC HR at jobs@uc.edu.
UC is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to building a workplace where all qualified applicants receive consideration for employment, including individuals with disabilities and protected veterans. We strive to foster an environment where staff and faculty are key contributors to our collective success.
