About the Role
A Locator is responsible for the safe and efficient identification, location, and protection of underground network facilities. In this role, you will operate from a company vehicle equipped with a laptop and smartphone to ensure clear and complete network identification for excavators and property owners. Your work is critical to preventing damage to underground infrastructure and ensuring public safety during excavation projects.
This position is being filled remotely within our Augusta, GA market. While the role is managed remotely, it requires candidates to reside in or near the Augusta area to perform essential field work.
Day in the Life
You will thoroughly search for underground utilities in designated areas, properly marking their locations and completing all necessary paperwork to finalize the locate. A significant part of your day involves operating the locator system, including sub-sites and handheld devices, to install underground telecommunications cable conduit and fiber optic cables. You will ensure that all applicable permits and locates are complete and present on-site before any work begins.
The role demands adherence to prescribed safety procedures and the use of appropriate safety equipment at all times. You will work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, often in confined spaces. Due to the company's 48-hour turnaround time on all locates, you should expect to work the day after holidays and some weekends as needed to meet service commitments.
Working Environment
You will perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor. The role requires travel up to 20% and flexibility to work various hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends. You will be expected to handle a large volume of work efficiently while navigating diverse physical demands, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, and lifting equipment and materials in varying weather conditions.
