Huntington Ingalls Industries is seeking Linux Systems Engineers to join a client team in Quantico, VA, with potential location options in Dam Neck, VA. This role is a 6-month contract-to-hire position where successful candidates will convert to permanent employment. The team focuses on providing critical technical support for Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVCt) training events, ensuring the reliability of distributed simulation applications and utilities.
As a Linux Systems Engineer, you will serve as a key technical resource for simulation environments. Your day-to-day involves installing software releases, managing upgrades and patches, and configuring NTB systems for training event planning and execution. You will utilize systems management software to monitor simulation components, responding to error conditions to ensure continuous service. This position requires flexibility, as duties may be adjusted to meet evolving business, customer, and contractual requirements.
Candidates must possess an active Secret clearance. The role offers several levels of seniority, accommodating various experience combinations ranging from entry-level with advanced degrees to experienced professionals with high school diplomas. The selection process focuses on verifying hands-on command line Linux experience and current CompTIA Security+ certification.
This is an onsite role in Virginia Beach, VA. While the position requires specific technical certifications and clearances, the team values practical knowledge of Red Hat Linux, networking protocols, and familiarity with Navy C4I tactical systems such as Link 16 and GCCS.
