This position serves as a key leader within a medium security facility, operating under general supervision to plan, coordinate, and direct security staff. The role is central to maintaining the safety and order of the institution, with primary responsibility for the security of all buildings and public property.
Day-to-day duties involve conducting routine unit checks to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties safely and that OSHA standards and cleanliness are maintained. The incumbent acts as a critical liaison, assisting with inmate counts for accuracy and investigating complaints or violations. A significant part of the role involves arbitrating disputes among the inmate population and correctional staff to maintain a secure environment.
Successful candidates must complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire. Additionally, new hires are required to be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entering the position.
