In the General Internal Medicine department, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides nursing care to assigned patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or other assigned supervisor. This role is integral to the healthcare team, delivering care in accordance with patient care plans, organizational policies, and the principles of relationship-based care.
The LPN collaborates daily with providers, desk operations specialists, patient appointment service specialists, interpreters, and medical secretaries. Patient visits include reviewing health history and medications, administering immunizations, performing ear lavage, conducting focused nutrition assessments, and managing blood pressure visits. In telehealth settings, the LPN collects pertinent information ahead of provider visits, researches prescription discrepancies, and facilitates prior authorization denials.
As a member of the team, the LPN collects data through observation and communicates information to assist the RN and provider in patient assessment and care planning. The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to mentor and instruct, and the potential to participate on committees or quality improvement projects. The LPN must be adaptable to unpredictable situations within the work setting and possess the flexibility to meet staffing needs.
Internal applicants should attach their three most recent performance appraisals to their application.
