About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our team of medical professionals at the Limeston Correctional Facility in Harvest, AL. In this unique position, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical staff to provide counseling and mental health care to a diverse population of residents with complex mental health and medical needs.
Working within a controlled environment where security is the top priority, you will engage in a dynamic day-to-day where no two days are the same. This role offers the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals with complex needs, ensuring they receive quality care that protects their rights, dignity, and health. You will help prepare residents for release by addressing criminogenic needs and promoting positive behavioral change.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleConduct mental health evaluations and document progress notes and treatment plans
- check_circleMonitor compliance with ACA, NCCHC standards and facility policies
- check_circleCollaborate with medical and correctional staff to ensure safe and secure patient care
- check_circleProvide individual and group counseling to promote positive behavioral change
- check_circleAssess, diagnose, and treat patients with mental illnesses and substance use disorders
- check_circleManage case files, prepare reports, and participate in hearings
- check_circleParticipate in patient education programs and training activities for staff
Requirements
- verifiedMaster's degree in Mental Health
- verifiedActive unrestricted licensure (LCSW, LCMHC, LMFT, LMHP, LISW) in Alabama
- verifiedMinimum 3 years clinical experience in mental health or acute care
- verifiedActive BLS CPR Certification
- verifiedPass criminal background check and drug screening
- verifiedKnowledge of DSM-V/DSM-V-TR criteria
- verifiedKnowledge of psychotropic medications
- verifiedAbility to maintain confidentiality and adhere to Code of Conduct
Nice to Have
American Heart Association BLS CPR Certification. Correctional healthcare experience.
