About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our team of medical professionals at the Ventress Correctional Facility in Clayton, AL. In this unique position, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical staff to provide counseling and mental health care to a diverse population of residents with complex mental health and medical needs.
Working within a controlled environment where security is the top priority, you will assess, diagnose, and treat patients with mental illnesses, substance use disorders, and behavioral issues. Your work will ensure residents receive quality care that protects their rights, dignity, and health. The days are never dull in this setting, offering a dynamic environment where you can make a tangible difference while preparing residents for successful reintegration.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circlePerform and document mental health evaluations, progress notes, and individual treatment plans
- check_circleMonitor compliance with ACA, NCCHC standards and facility policies
- check_circleProvide training on mental health care to security personnel and healthcare staff
- check_circleCollaborate with medical, mental health, and correctional staff to ensure safe patient care
- check_circleParticipate in patient education programs and develop educational materials
- check_circleAssess, diagnose, and treat patients with mental illnesses and substance use disorders
- check_circleConduct individual and group counseling sessions to promote positive behavioral change
- check_circleManage case files, prepare reports, and participate in hearings
Requirements
- verifiedMaster's degree in Mental Health
- verifiedActive unrestricted licensure (LCSW, LCMHC, LMFT, LMHP, LISW) in Alabama
- verifiedMinimum 3 years clinical experience in mental health or acute care
- verifiedActive BLS CPR Certification
- verifiedPass criminal background check and drug screening
- verifiedKnowledge of DSM-V/DSM-V-TR criteria
- verifiedKnowledge of mental health and substance abuse treatment
- verifiedKnowledge of psychotropic medications
- verifiedAbility to maintain confidentiality and adhere to Code of Conduct
Nice to Have
American Heart Association BLS CPR Certification. Correctional healthcare experience.
