As the leader of the health care team, this Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. The role is designed to demonstrate performance consistent with the Medical Center's Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan. You will remain flexible to changing systems, ensuring quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice while treating co-workers, patients, families, and all members of the health care team with dignity and respect.
Your day involves leading the health care team by delegating tasks appropriately, mentoring new employees, and championing new ideas. You will develop and contribute to individualized plans of care that reflect multidisciplinary planning, cultural specific needs, and appropriate acuity. A significant portion of your time is dedicated to monitoring patient progress, revising care plans based on ongoing evaluations, and ensuring effective discharge planning that includes clear patient and family education.
You will act as a resource and preceptor for students and registry staff, participating in departmental performance improvement activities. Your responsibilities include discussing patient findings with physicians, ensuring optimal pain control and patient safety, and maintaining a clean, orderly, and functional work environment. You will also practice customer service standards by promptly answering call lights, facilitating resource utilization, and ensuring patients understand their medication and treatment plans.
Candidates must possess a valid California Registered Nurse License, Basic Life Support certification, and either Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Provider Certification or Pediatric Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Certification. Experience in acute care or ambulatory care within the last three years is required. Additional requirements may include PICC didactic course and insertion experience. Please note that this role includes weekend and holiday requirements and may involve floating to all SDSA locations, including San Marcos.
