The Department of Biomedical Engineering and Informatics (BMEI) is a dynamic, interdisciplinary home to over 300 students and 20 faculty members. We offer a diverse range of programs including B.S. degrees in Health Information Management and Biomedical Informatics, M.S. degrees in Health Informatics, Bioinformatics, and Biomedical Engineering, as well as Ph.D. tracks in Informatics. Our faculty conduct groundbreaking, externally-funded research in clinical and health informatics, systems interventions, human-computer interaction, and bioinformatics.
BMEI enjoys close collaborations with the Regenstrief Institute, the IU Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, the VA Center for Health Information and Communication, and Indiana University Health. We also partner with the Schools of Nursing, Dentistry, and Public Health, leveraging Indiana's robust healthcare ecosystem, including the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE) and Michiana Health Info Network (MHIN).
We are seeking exceptional instructors to join our fast-growing Health Informatics Program as a Lecturer. This is a full-time, in-person faculty appointment based on the IU Indianapolis campus. The Lecturer will cover major areas of the AMIA 2017 core competencies, focusing on the intersection of Health Information Science and Technology, Human Factors and Socio-technical systems, and Social and Behavioral Aspects of Health.
The role entails a standard teaching load of four courses per semester, with an effort distribution of 80% teaching and 20% service. Responsibilities include developing courses for traditional classrooms, computer labs, and online education, as well as contributing to program goals, curriculum updates, and student recruitment. You will also engage in scholarly activity, serve on departmental committees, and maintain current knowledge through professional organizations and research. This position offers a clear path for advancement; non-tenure track faculty who meet specific criteria may apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer and ultimately Professor of Teaching.
