Founded in 1885, Ellis is a vibrant, Boston-based nonprofit and a recognized leader in early childhood education. We partner with families to provide high-quality care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, as well as out-of-school time programs for youth in grades K through 8. Our mission is to create a warm, nurturing environment that celebrates the joy of childhood and supports children across the socio-economic spectrum.
Ellis stands out as one of the most socio-economically, racially, and culturally diverse organizations serving children in Boston. We operate out of two historic buildings in the South End and maintain a partnership with Boston Public Schools to run high-performing community-based K-1 classrooms. We serve over 200 children annually and are committed to treasure diversity in all forms.
As a Lead Teacher, you will be the heart of our Infant & Toddler program, responsible for the development and implementation of daily learning plans that foster growth, safety, and well-being. You will work in a collaborative environment to ensure compliance with all licensing regulations while providing individualized attention to every child.
Your day will involve planning and executing engaging activities in art, music, literature, and science, while also dedicating time to play, hold, and talk with each child. You will manage essential care routines, including feeding according to individual schedules and providing diaper and clothing changes. Beyond direct care, you will maintain detailed records of each child's progress, communicate regularly with parents and staff, and coordinate classroom logistics, including meal schedules and staff breaks.
Interested candidates should submit their application via our careers page. The selection process typically involves a review of qualifications, followed by an interview with the Infant & Toddler Site Director and relevant team members.
Ellis is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity in all forms and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for our staff, families, and the children we serve. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background.
