Johnston County Landfill is seeking a responsible Equipment Technician to oversee preventative maintenance, repairs, and ensure the efficient operation of our diverse fleet and mechanical devices. This role is critical to keeping landfill operations running smoothly, from bulldozers and track loaders to trash compactors, excavators, and heavy-duty highway trucks.
As an Essential Personnel member, you will serve as the backbone of our maintenance team. Your day will involve operating a service truck to perform refueling and daily maintenance, managing a clean and organized shop area, and executing complex repairs on hydraulic systems, electric components, and waste containers. You will also utilize welding, cutting, and fabrication skills to maintain our equipment, while relying on basic computer skills for parts ordering and maintenance software.
This position requires adaptability and resilience. As essential staff, you will be required to work during and following natural disasters and emergency situations to ensure the county's waste management infrastructure remains functional. The role demands physical stamina to handle heavy work and the ability to operate safely in adverse environmental conditions, including exposure to dust, odors, weather extremes, and hazardous materials.
