As a Laboratory Assistant II at Kaiser Permanente in Bakersfield, you will serve as a critical link in our patient care continuum. This on-call position focuses on the essential pre-analytical and post-analytical phases of laboratory testing, ensuring that every sample is collected, processed, and transported with the highest level of accuracy and care.
You will be the first point of contact for many patients, performing venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks across all age groups. Your work requires selecting the appropriate technique based on a patient's age and physical maturation, while carefully assessing the necessary blood volume for specific tests. Beyond collection, you will manage the pre-analytical workflow, including barcoding, centrifuging, separating, logging, culturing, and staining bacteriological specimens.
This role demands more than technical proficiency; it requires the ability to establish courteous and cooperative relations with the public, patients, and colleagues. You will handle difficult situations with professionalism, maintain inventory levels, and assist with patient check-ins and revenue collection tasks as needed. Your presence helps uphold Kaiser Permanente's policies and ensures compliance with all applicable state, federal, and local laws.
External hires for this position must pass a background check and drug screen. Qualified applicants with arrest and/or conviction records will be considered for employment in a manner consistent with Federal, state, and local laws, including the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.
Kaiser Permanente is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, protected veteran status, or disability status.
