About the Role

As an Interrelated Elementary Teacher, you will serve as a vital member of a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to maximizing student learning within the Interrelated Classroom. Your primary mission is to provide appropriate, individualized curriculum to identified special education students, ensuring they meet established outcomes based on their Individual Education Plans (IEPs). This role goes beyond instruction; it is about fostering interest and enthusiasm for learning, helping students grasp knowledge through tailored activities that build academic, daily living, and social skills.

You will be the architect of each student's educational journey, working closely with regular education staff, parents, and administrators to diagnose needs, structure IEPs, and communicate progress. Your day involves adapting course content to specific skill levels, designing reinforcement activities, and managing classroom dynamics to create a supportive environment where every student can succeed. Whether leading lectures, facilitating group projects, or supervising paraprofessionals, your focus remains on creating a physical and emotional space that reflects the season and subject matter to facilitate deep learning.

The Team and Culture

You will be working under the direct supervision of a department supervisor while collaborating with a diverse population of students, colleagues, and families. Success in this role requires tact, diplomacy, and a positive attitude when interacting with internal and external customers. We value employees who understand the district's mission and are committed to maintaining a professional image that reflects positively on USD 259. From the classroom to the central office, your interactions are expected to be friendly, responsive, and grounded in confidentiality and professional judgment.

Application and Hiring Process

Candidates must hold a valid Kansas Teaching License with an Adaptive Endorsement. Primary Teachers must possess K-9 or K-6 Certification. A Master's degree in Special Education is required, or you must be enrolled in a Special Education Degree Program with a Plan of Study on file with the District, along with a Special Education Waiver. Prior teaching experience is preferred.

Interested candidates should apply through the district's standard hiring channels. Please note that this position is exempt under FLSA and may require limited travel between schools and central offices. All employees are expected to adhere to strict punctuality and appearance standards to ensure the effective operation of our schools.
